Automatic Writing: Higher Self Connection
Finished a guided meditation and thought, “I didn’t see anything. I didn’t hear anything. Nothing happened?”
You are not alone.
Automatic writing is here to help you.
Many people begin their spiritual journey expecting dramatic visions or strong sensations during meditation. But the truth is, your soul may already be experiencing far more than your conscious mind realises. One of the most powerful ways to understand these experiences is through automatic writing.
In this article, I’m going to share what automatic writing is, how it works, why it is a safe spiritual practice, and how you can start using automatic writing to receive guidance from your higher self.
What Is Automatic Writing?
Automatic writing is a spiritual practice where you continuously write without overthinking, analyzing, or judging the words that come through. It is a way to connect with your higher self and receive intuitive guidance.
Whenever you feel stuck in life, confused, emotionally overwhelmed, or uncertain about your next step, automatic writing can help you reconnect with the wisdom already inside your heart.
Unlike journaling, automatic writing is not about consciously deciding what to write. Instead, it allows messages, emotions, and insights to flow naturally through you.
For many people, automatic writing becomes a safe and powerful spiritual tool for self-discovery, healing, and clarity.

How To Do Automatic Writing
The beautiful thing about automatic writing is that it is very simple to begin.
1. Use Pen and Paper
For automatic writing, handwriting is important. Writing with your hands creates a different energetic connection compared to typing.
2. Do Not Stop Writing
This is the most important rule.
Even if you feel:
“I don’t know what to write”
“Nothing is coming through”
“This doesn’t make sense”
Keep writing anyway.
3. Do Not Analyse or Judge
Do not worry about:
Spelling mistakes
Grammar
Messy handwriting
Whether the message “makes sense”
The goal is flow, not perfection.
4. Write for at Least 10 Minutes
Set a timer and continue writing without stopping. Personally, I often write for 10–20 minutes. Usually, once you move past the first few minutes, the deeper messages begin to flow naturally.
Powerful Automatic Writing Prompts
If you are unsure how to start, here are some helpful automatic writing prompts:
“What is the most important message I need to know right now?”
“What did I experience during this guided meditation?”
“What does my higher self want me to understand?”
“….XXX happened, is there anything I can know for my highest good?“
Choose one question and simply begin writing.
What You May Experience During Automatic Writing
When practicing automatic writing, you may notice:
Repeating loving messages
Emotional release
Unexpected wisdom
Deep comfort and reassurance
Greater clarity about your life path
Sometimes the messages feel so different from your normal thoughts that you may wonder:
“Did I really write this?”
That is actually very common.
For me, my higher self often repeats loving messages such as:
“I love you.”
“I’m always with you.”
“Thank you for seeing me.”
These messages can feel incredibly healing and comforting.
Why Automatic Writing Is Helpful After Guided Meditation
Sometimes after a guided meditation or visualisation, people feel frustrated because they think they experienced “nothing.” But from a spiritual perspective, that is usually not true. Guided meditation is like a spiritual journey. Your soul still have experiences even if your conscious mind does not know it. Automatic writing helps bridge that gap. Understand what your soul experienced.
Spiritual Senses
Many people expect spirituality to look or sound dramatic, but spiritual communication can be very subtle.
Everyone has spiritual sense and can develop over time. The key is becoming more familiar with them through practice and trust.
Claircognizance is clear knowing. You simply know something without needing proof or explanation.
Clairvoyance is inner vision. You may see images or scenes in your mind’s eye during meditation.
Clairaudience is hearing spiritual messages, sounds, words, or melodies internally.
Clairsentience is feeling energy or emotions. Some people can sense how others feel emotionally or energetically.
My Personal Experience With Automatic Writing
Automatic writing has helped me many times throughout my spiritual journey.
One time during self-healing, I saw an image of a version of myself covered in a dark burned shell. I knew it represented an aspect of me, but I didn’t understand what it meant. I tried to receive guidance during meditation, but nothing became clear. Then I received an intuitive message telling me to do automatic writing.
So I sat down and asked: “What do I need to understand about this burned version of myself?”
As I wrote continuously, the message that came through was deeply emotional. The writing explained that this aspect of me was asking to help with releasing everything stuck inside her so that she can revealed her trueself again.
